Paul J Lamb, Principal

Biography

Paul Lamb is a consultant and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in business, nonprofit management, technology and public policy. He is also a frequent speaker, radio commentator and OpEd contributor on technology and social issues in a variety of publications. He also works as a senior consultant with Social Enterprise Ventures helping to train nonprofits to build social enterprises.

Paul was named the University of California, San Diego Outstanding Alumnus of the Year in 2005 and honored with the California Governor’s Technology & Innovation Award in 2002, both for his work in technology targeting underserved communities.

Paul is a founder and former Executive Director of The Stride Center (formerly Street Tech), an award-winning program providing computer training and job placement for low-income and underserved youth in San Francisco’s East Bay. He has developed several other successful nonprofit programs and social enterprises in the areas of youth, workforce development, and technology.

Paul’s business background includes positions as Director of Programs and Executive Director of the China Business Forum at the US-China Business Council in Washington, D.C., and a business analyst for Ernst & Young and a marketing consultant for both U.S. and Asian firms. Paul is a graduate of Earlham College, the Johns Hopkins University-Nanjing University’s Center for Chinese and American Studies, and the University of California, San Diego’s School for International Relations and Pacific Studies.

He is a recent graduate of the Zero Divide Fellowship program with the ZeroDivide Foundation, is an awardee of the Knight Foundation 21st Media Challenge, and was a Next Generation Fellow with the American Assembly at Columbia University. Paul is the author of the Be A Better Partner Handbook for Couples and, is the founder of the Cool ‘n Conscientious blog, and is a contributing blogger on SmartMobs.com and PBS.org's IdeaLab.

Personal

Paul was born in Paterson, New Jersey and grew up in central Massachusetts. Unfortunately, he lost his Boston accent somewhere between Richmond Indiana and Nanjing, China. He currently lives in Vallejo, California with his lovely wife, two rambunctious daughters and chubby beagle.
